Astonia Patch:
|
Astonia had a patch which added new content, check it:The new patch includes another part of the Labyrinth Quest™. Ishtar, Astonia's mighty God, created these quests to prepare the warriors and mages of Astonia for the fateful fight against the Gate Keeper. In the new part of the Labyrinth Quest™ the players have to defeat three evil Demon Lords, using a combination of combat and magic.
The patch also adds a brand-new feature to the game, the Ice Caves. This area introduces elements of strategic gameplay to the world of Astonia, as the players have to lead a small army of soldiers into battle in order to gain control over the precious platinum mines. These feature quests are rockin. |

In DE News:
|
Stratics after hosting numerous developer chats with the folks from Dragon Empires finally realized that their massive network does not have a dedicated DE Fansite.
That changed finally with a pleased announcment, following a House of Commons chat in which Peter Tyson had to be awake at 3:40am due to time differences. Ouch! Remember, it's for the fans!
Peter tells everyone:This Wednesday we hit a new milestone in the client build so I hope to be able to bring you all some cool new screenshots very soon now. Coolness!
In case you missed it, there is also a new "Developer Diary" to read. This one is from one of the programmers about the exciting world of... pathing!
Last but not least, they are hiring a DBA/Interactive Tools Developer, you need to be in the U.K. and RPG Vault has Q&A #11 up covering the weather and world system. |

Today in Earth and Beyond:
|
There is a new "Glimpse Inside Article" in which they tell us about the Tradeskills and related abilities available in Earth & Beyond.
Tomorrow (October 31, 2001) is the Final Deadline for the Founders Federation program, if you are not in it yet. The Founder's program rewards beta testers by letting them carry their beta characters into the retail version of the game.Earth & Beyond testers who wish to transfer their characters into the final game need to purchase and register the retail version of the game by Oct. 31. After that day, beta characters will be wiped from game servers. Why start all over when you can have an already established character, ship, and get a cool Founders logo?
Maybe I should install it, register and get a review done. Without PvP though... |

Today in Shadowbane:
|
Vosx said he had the Canadian Flu (or something Monday) so it was not until late yesterday that he managed to get out of bed, sick... tired... hungry... miserable... all for the fans, to release the second part of the one-on-one interview with Dreadflame, which you can download.
Go Vosx!
Heather, your Hostess for the Shadowbane Player Lunch this November 17th, has issued her first newsletter regarding it with all the info you need, if your not on the newsletter you can find the same info on the site. Guest list includes 8 of the Shadowbane developers from Wolfpack coming, and a few players. Be sure to check it out. No, I'm not going.
Ok, we goofed. We ran into a problem regarding the prizes for the RP Contest we held. We notifed folks. We dropped the ball, as an E-Mail or two bounced. Thanks to The Greenman for pointing it out. I've kicked the Prize Department (Maestro) into getting those taken care of. |

UO: House Decay Delayed!
|
If you have been lazy (cough-cough) the past week and know you needed to log into Ultima to refresh your 20 something buildings on your multiple accounts, decay has yet again been pushed back: Most players will agree that anything that affects housing in Ultima Online is obviously a high-impact change. With this in mind, and seeing that we're still working out some network issues, we're going to keep on auto-refresh for a few more weeks. We understand that some of our players are eagerly awaiting an opportunity to place houses in soon-to-be-vacant spots, and we apologize for the inconvenience caused by the delay, but our top priority has to be making sure that there are no other problems in the service that could cause issues for homeowners once we turn off auto-decay.
Our current estimate for re-instating house decay is mid-November. Claiming of ownerless houses will remain available to players until Phase 3 takes effect. We will make another update about Phase 3 of housing once we have a firm date, and we thank you very much for your patience. That works for me. |

Editorial: Mods gone bad.
|
Deyth from The Combine has a new article up where he vents after getting two warnings on his board account due to a new mod within the PvP Community for saying, bad things. Mods are wusses. Mods who volunteer for 4 hours a day to troll a forum, reading every single message for that one person who said a bad thing, regardless of how much the defend themselves for having a life. Have none.
In a part of Deyth's article he writes:Does anyone really believe that the users on a PvP server board or irc channel care if the word shit or fuck is being thrown around like free candy? No. Only the mods do. In reality, the mods are the only ones that require the moderation. Tru-dat. Check it! |

EnB: Trick or Treat!
|
Earth and Beyond is to be haunted with Halloween festivities. Halloween brings new quests, monsters and items to the galaxy October 31. The update that Westwood is releasing for the game Oct. 30 will provide players with content for an in-game Halloween event to happen Oct. 31. The event is open to all players, and will hold to the game's fiction while offering several new Halloween activities. These include such things as costumes and pumpkin projectiles that will affect both the players' in-game starships and avatars. Players who wish to participate in the festivities can log on anytime Oct. 31.
In addition to the in-game event, Westwood is hosting a Halloween contest on the game's official website, www.earthandbeyond.com The contest, called 'Megan's Masquerade,' invites contestants to create a Halloween costume for the game's digital assistant, Megan. Beginning Oct. 25, entrants can submit digital images of their costumes via the game's website. Winners will be selected by Westwood Nov. 8, and will receive Earth & Beyond paraphernalia.
Sounds... Uhm... Spacey!
As well as celebrating Halloween, October 30th brings in the first of new monthy updates to the game, with the first set of features to include:* New missions for all character archetypes. * New unique items that are dropped when players kill high-level monsters. * A speed increase to all ships while planet side. * Improved item drops for mid- to high-level monsters. * Additional information on trade good items. * Graphical enhancements to combat. * Enhancements to the embedded browser. While this is old news, those who were hoping for PvP in this game. Forget about it. Even if it goes in, it's going to be another EA system that never get's support. Per MobiusX, "E&B is primarily a PvE (player vs. environment) game. As such, any PvP designs will be secondary to core gameplay." |

Shadowbane Thursday:
|
Ubi Soft updated the Shadowbane site with a new Bard Tale (who work for the Heralds), this being The Aerynthian Codex, a newbies travel guide within the lands of Aerynth. 5 pages of great reading. If these folks do not get paid for writing this stuff, they should be! (Cheap Shot, I know. It's all in fun!)
Ragnorok who has been a registered member of the Shadowbane community since 2-10-01 made an interesting observation mirrored by many:I'm tired of screenies. I've seen too many. I don't care about screenies anymore. I just wanna play the game! We feel your pain dewd.
For everyone else though, there are 11 screenshots up on BluesNews and 11 screenshots on ALLRpg (which look the same as BluesNews?)which can also be found on Adrenaline Vault as well as a few new ones in this Article on Races by GameSpy which is a two page summary, written by the Wolfpack-Team? Oh, and no, none of the dedicated Fan Sites, nor were we given any of the latest batch of screenies or pre-penned articles, we aer teh sux.
And what Thursday would be complete without "Bash Ubi Soft Thursday?" Over on PKer.org is a report of Horizon from The Pluggers guild getting banned from Beta for an incident with a CCR:Horizon got his beta account banned for pointing out a possible abuse of power that a ccr representive purposly interfered with regular gameplay to help a friend in a rival guild. We are hearing mixed signals on why he was banned, so we're just going to leave this one alone for now. Luckliy they have also posted a statement regarding the banning from Zelnik for your reading pleasure.
Discuss: So much for exclusives? |

UO Fixes Bugs, World Gasp's.
|
Considering many were hating Ultima for saying fixes to some of the current frustrating bugs would not be released until AoS comes out, everyone was caught offgaurd when these fixes were announced on the FYI Page:* An issue that caused large, leather Tailoring Bulk Order Deeds to yield the same rewards, no matter which type of leather, has been fixed. Players should now receive the appropriate rewards when turning in large, high-level Tailoring BODs.
* An issue that caused the paints given out in Elwood's Quest to become stuck in an "in use" state has been resolved.
* Blade spirits and energy vortices should now properly attack creatures within range. Many a fan danced for joy.

A copy of NwN Offline has been found over on The-Underdogs, which seems to be the NW Knight version that made it's way around a few years ago. Has full GM capabilities, and the quests. I never made it to Triboar to see if the DM Chamber was in it so, anyone that get's over send me a screencap if it's there.

Shadowbane Marketing + Stuff:
|
Normally this should wait until Bash Ubi Soft Thursdays, but why wait when this kinda falls into the "Oops" category. Thats what sucks about print magazines, it's two months ahead in print time, so when you get locked into advertising there is no way to back out. This is in the November CGW magazine, so don't go running to Best Buy for your copy of Shadowbane when you know it's not out yet.
This is a kicking intro to Shadowbane that some fans tossed together, download it and watch. It rocks.
J from SB WarCry has an interview with Ubi Soft In-Game Support Manager Nakoliss, also known as 'Dangerman.' The interview covers Nakoliss' career before joining Ubi Soft, and his thoughts about providing Customer Care to Shadowbane's future customers. Head over and give it a read. |

NwN: The week that was...
|
How cool is this, Neverwinter Nights enhanced with new game content! From the official press release:* Kobold - Ah, kobolds... It seems so harsh to call them "monsters." They're really just... misguided - like a pet Chihuahua that can't resist growling at the neighbor's Doberman... check out this funky new Neverwinter Nights content in this preview, , and in the sample module included in the patch. * Malar Panther - It rips, it tears, it shreds, it slices, it dices, it juliennes, it's the all-new Malar Panther. This online profile has the details. Check out the real thing in the sample module included in the patch. * Content Installer Creator - The Neverwinter Nights Content Installer Creator (NWNCIC) was developed to make distributing and installing user-created content for Neverwinter as easy as possible. We also have an online tutorial to aid users with this much-requested utility. To get the new game content, Neverwinter Nights users simply press the update button on the main Neverwinter Nights screen. The 7 megabyte update will be installed automatically.
This patch is the first of an ongoing series of official Neverwinter Nights content enhancements to be released by BioWare, amid an abundance of content created by members of the extremely productive Neverwinter Nights development community which has created over 1400 new adventure modules, over 100 new creatures, and over 500 other game content items. For more information about the official Neverwinter Nights community, visit http://neverwinternights.com
I've been waiting for Kobolds!
Also in NwN News, BioWare Corp. today announced that Neverwinter Nights was honored yesterday with an Interactive Entertainment Award (BAFTA) for Best PC Game by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. To quote the BAFTA website:"Good graphics, beautiful lighting, outstanding score and great voices round off this superb game." It's well deserved, congrats! |

|
Eve Online the space MMO that everyone is waiting for with baited breath, as it will have PvP in it, has decided to push back thier release date to the 1st quarter of 2003 with an expected date in March. They plan to also include more testers in the coming months. As Mike "Campion" Wallace is quoted:Mike Wallis, producer of Eve at Simon & Schuster Interactive, comments on the delay. "Beta testers universally agree that the game rocks, but we're shooting for spectacular. Fans, beta testers, and the EVE ONLINE team all agree, delaying the game to fine tune the features through an extended beta period is essential to deliver a game that is 'beyond earth shattering.'" All of us were amazed at Eve when we saw it at GenCon, we can't wait. Watch this game. |
