Special Sections: Gen Con '02

We are now confirmed gamer-geek-dork-fan-boys this far into the Con leaving no stone unturned! We are drooling over Booth Babes, Costumed Hotties, Guests of Honor, and of course games! Running booth-to-booth to look at just about everything, we stumbled to a halt when we ran into the following vendors continuing with the invasion we started on the last page!

This is the third part of our GenCon Journal, both part one and part two have already been printed for you to enjoy.

Invasion '02! pII - Div Devlin (08-11-02)

The Original Chainmail Girl!
Chainmail Girl, the Original one was working the Flying Buffalo booth and we just had to stop and visit with her. While the rest of the gaming community may have Stevie Case as the number one gal for FPS, the paper gamer has Chainmail Girl. We stopped to ask her a few questions regarding her underground or Internet fan following!
Div: How did you become the 'Chain Mail Girl?'
CMG: It just started out one day, and that's what people were calling me.
Div: There are many who try to wear the title but you are the original. How long have you been the Chain Mail Girl?
CMG: It's going on six years now.
Div: You do all the conventions. Origin's, Gen Con, Flat Con last month; don't you ever get tired of all the conventions?
[Random passerby: "I love your chainmail!"]
CMG: I love conventions, never get tired. It's a lot of fun.
Div: You are ranked number one in all the top search engines, sub sites dedicated to you with a large fan following; How does it feel to be such an underground celebrity with a huge internet following?
CMG: It's interesting.
Div: What's next, when is your new calendar coming out?
CMG: There may not be a 2003 calendar.
Div: What's next, another convention, going to take a break?
CMG: Probably take a break.
As you can tell, she was rather shy. Who wouldn't be though when you have a tape recorder shoved in your face and someone shooting pictures all at once! She is great though, and everyone loves her! Looking forward to the next calendar if there is one!

If you have never been to the GenCon costume contest, you have no idea what you are missing. So, we are going to tell you. Aside from all the folks who come dressed up in costumes (that most hand-make), the show itself is a great time when you have the “Uber Geek” LukeSki one of the Dr. Demento child star's ripping into anything and everything that gamers of all types know in his parodies. Opening his routine in the show with his “Bender Roboto” theme he rocked the house for the two-hour duration, and is a must see. Buy some of his stuph.

Crazed Artist and Writer!
Comic's have always been around, but this year the best true Dungeons and Dragon comic made it's debut from Iron Hammer Graphics with their "Vecna: Hand of the Revenant Comic". It's got some great art and a rocking storyline telling the tale of the Arch-Liche we all know “Vecna.” The writer, Modi Thorsson claims to of been kidnapped as child by a group of adventurers in need of a torch bearer, and the artist Kevin McCann was thought to be a simple painter, but was really evil in the way he painted. We don't want to ruin their backgrounds for you so we won't say more. One comic aficionado said:
“Finally a real D&D comic that looks good too!”
We have to agree on that. Funny story they told us, was when they were trying to bring the comics through customs for the convention. They could not get past the custom's agent who needed a signature from the supervisor to allow the comics to come through. The supervisor was unavailable. After a frantic search, they finally tracked him down via cell-phone and asked the customs supervisor where he was. “I'm at GenCon, what is the problem?” After explaining that they needed his authorization to pass through the agent, the supervisor said, “Hey they are here for the convention, send them through!” We have no idea if that is the actual story or if it's a work of fiction, but it was funny as hell! If you can find this comic someplace, get it. It's a collectible!

Earth and Beyond had a small showing playing a movie demo of the game, while handing out Beta CD's and talking about the game. Chris Klug the Lead Designer made it by the booth for the Friday Night bash! Friday night they took over the iGames Cyber Center with EnB and UO: LBR to show live demo's of the games to eager players.

Unfortunately after riding around for 30 minutes in the wrong direction we were lost and could not find the place. Another disappointment to fans who came was that the handouts being given to those who showed an interest in the game, did not get the "hands on demo" as advertised at the booth. But, the game did spark some interest with some paper gamers, and everyone loves free disks, even if they never play the game. Their loss.

Next up: The EQ Tourney not just for players, and Eve Online!
Discuss: That's it? Another damn page? j00 suck!
