GenCon '04 EverQuest II and something just "For The Guys"
GenCon is the traditional paper gaming grand exhibition which has been going on for over 30 years in the Midwest, where gamers and game companies meet for all things gaming. From across the country gamers descended upon the "Crossroads of America" at the Indianapolis Convention Center as the convention was held this year from August 19th to the 22nd, it's been dubbed as the best four days in gaming. We agree!
This is the fourth part of our GenCon Recap covering EverQuest II from Sony Online Entertainment, and just for the guys we stop off during a night of checking out the nightlife to harass our waitress at one of the bars.
In it's first public appearance to the general masses, Sony unveiled EverQuest II at GenCon running players through character generation and a tutorial mission. Graphics look great and are smooth. The tutorial is the same as was revealed behind closed doors at E3 earlier this year where you start on a ship, which teaches you the basics for game play; Movement, Targeting, Looting and Questing within an instanced area. You are alone. Once completed your character will disembark the ship onto a new player island where a welcoming guard will greet players fresh off the boat and lead players into the next step of character development, choosing an archetype. At this point the adventure begins and you are within the world of Norrath. Upon choosing your archetype players will be directed to a trainer and receive additional quests for progression until your graduate from the new player island and can head off to the main cities, based on alignment. Newb Isle is yet another instanced zone and the game will be running multiple instances for zones, much like City of Heroes does now. So, if one of your guild mates or, if you have them, friends are in another instanced area, you can choose to go to that area. The world setting takes place in the future of the current EverQuest lore. The world as known as had a cataclysm which has reformed the landmasses. Area's once known are no longer while new areas and some familiar places still exit, like Freeport and Quenyos. Through the questing system you can discover what occurred to the worlds back-story and learn more as you progress. This was reminiscent of World of Warcraft's current questing system where you advance further in the game, by learning and playing the game.
EverQuest II still remains one of the most anticipated titles in development. Just to see if they will release if anyuthing. Most ambitous sequals to date in the MMO Genre have flopped. Until then though, I walked away from the game actually more interested in the booth babe than the game who replaced the fearsome gal from the past couple of years. New game, new babe. She is a hottie, no? For The Guys Warning: Gals, you may want to skip this part. Ok guys, how could we go out drinking at a convention and not give you a report. Indianapolis is one cranking party town. There are a number of places for you to get your fill, and in some cases lines form up just to get in. One club called Lotus does not even open until after 10pm bringing a little bit of Los Angeles to the cross roads of America. One club, which holds a special place in our beer gullet, is the Ram Restaurant. If you don't know why, well check this interview with our bar gal from last year over in Rosemont, Illinois. The Ram is more akin to a sports bar and restaurant as opposed to a nightclub that has their own microbrewery. You can never go wrong with a place that brews their own drink. The food is great, but be wary if you order the one-pound hamburger, this is a huge slab of beef! They pulled out all the stops to welcome gamers to their humble abode as well. The owners re-themed the entire house to reflect Dungeons and Dragons, even naming meals and drinks after well-known canon from the game. As an example, Lord Soth's Sloth was we assume a soup. We were not eager to test the name out. The bartenders and the wait staff were phenomenal. We hung out at the bar for several hours at least, immersing ourselves with the local ale and regaling others with tales of our heroics when in came “The Bride.” Guys, when you have a bridal party first enter the house, always try to give her that first shot of tequila! It's a great way to score points, sure she may not leave her fiancé, but it is the gals last night out, make an impression. Always congratulate mom also, you never know what could happen when they ditch mom later, not that we partook of any extra curricular activities with the bridal party. We've not done male stripping in many years! (And it was only in college to make extra cash!) The real reason we love this place though is because the bar gals, wait staff and females that work in most of the Ram locations are not stuck on themselves and like to have a good time as well. So, without further adieu let us introduce you to Misty, who was willing to sit down with our interviewer "Norin" and ask all those questions that we as guys want to know, but as gamers are to shy to ask!
[Laughs] What does A/S/L mean? Age/Sex/Live? 30/F/Indy If we buy a lot of drinks and tip well, can we stare at you A LOT? Yeah, sure, I guess. Can you drink? What is your favorite drink? Yes, I can drink… and Long Island Ice Tea How many phone numbers do you collect (or throw out) per night? How many have you ever called? An average of one a night, more on a good night. Yeah, I've called one or two. What do these people drink? - A Guy wearing a baseball hat? - A guy in a suit and tie? - A guy in a pink polo? Hmm, the guy in the cap would have some kind of light beer The one in the suit would take a manhattan or a cosmopolitan The pink shirt? Something fruity like a Raspberry Stolie. Tats (tattoo's) of a rose on your ankle? Nope, no tattoos. Do have objections to body art? I think they're a fad.
[Note, at this point she was rolling right along with the questions and having fun -Div] Yes, I have a bellybutton ring and well, my ears but that doesn't count! If you were going to get another piercing, where would it be? My ear again. Bonus Speed Round! Answer as quickly as possible! Blow dry or towel? Blow dry Bikini or Two-Piece? Bikini Suntan or Sun-block? Sun Tan Top or Bottom? Top Country or Metal? Country Beach or Pool? Pool Great Sex or Great Swell? What's great swell? It could be a surfer's wave, but probably not. [blushing] Oh, great sex then, size doesn't matter! Can we keep you! How many times have you been asked if you want to see how blind people recognize other people? Want to experience it? Umm… none and no?
[Note, after the rapid fire round she's hammering the answers out as fast as we ask without thinking.] Pee standing up. What's the one thing you do best? Blowjobs if you must know! We really didn't need to know that, but we were glad we do now, as she hammered out the last answer she was just as loud as the rest of us, and everyone nearby cheered for her. She was great, so if you ever find yourself in downtown Indie, make sure to check her out and grab some food at the: 140 S. Illinois St. Indianapolis, Indiana But don't tell them we sent you! Next: Guests of Honor and Gurps Online Back: Dead Gentlemen Productions & Dungeons and Dragons Online Discuss: Yes, we really asked her those questions. |
