The Greedy Emissary Returns
Later during this content cycle, we’ll be bringing back the Greedy Emissary event. During this event you’ll be able to encounter even more of these deviously greedy emissaries in Stormwind, Orgrimmar, Dornogal, and Undermine for new diabolical rewards— including a mount. You won’t want to miss some truly iconic rewards including recolors of classic Tier 2 armor sets for your characters.

Patch 11.1.7: Legacy of Arathor Overview
Original 2023 Greedy Emissary Event
The original Greedy Emissary event took place in May and June 2023, during the midway point of the Dragonflight expansion and as part of the launch celebrations for Diablo IV.
In the original Greedy Emissary event, Treasure Goblins would spawn in Stormwind, Orgrimmar, Valdrakken, and all main Dragon Isles zones, and players would have to chase and kill these goblins for their rewards. These rewards included items such as a unique 36-slot bag, Diablo-themed cosmetics such as the Baa’lial Soulstone Battle Pet, and more importantly, the return (for a limited time) of the Tyrael’s Charger’s mount, which was initially offered as a one-year promotion in Mists of Pandaria.

Greedy Emissary 2025 – What do we Currently Know?
It is currently unknown if the Greedy Emissary event in Patch 11.1.7 will differ from the original 2023 event, as the event is not available for testing at the time of writing.
On the 11.1.7 PTR, you can check the event description on the in-game calendar. On the PTR calendar, the event has a duration from July 1st to August 1st.
One of the main additions for the Greedy Emissary event in 2025 is a new currency and chest – Hellstone Shard and Hellcaller Chest. Hellcaller Chest seems like it will be obtained from Treasure Goblins, and can contain items like Valorstones and “otherworldly items”. It is currently unknown what those otherworldly items entail, but we figure it out might be rewards from the past event, new Elixirs and Charms, and more things.
Of note, the 10 first Hellcaller Chest you loot will contain guaranteed Hellstone Shard – These will be used to exchange for the new Recolored Tier 2 sets in Dornogal, for the duration of the event. Every Hellcaller Chest after the first 10 will have a low chance of containing additional Hellstone Shard.
One of the “otherworldly items” in Hellcaller Chests is likely new elixirs! The spell Throw Elixir is linked to many new elixirs in Patch 11.1.7, both with the “Greedy Emissary” tag and most of them named after affixes you can find from Elite and Champion mobs in different Diablo games. It is currently unknown what these spell effects will do. We’re speculating that these will give the Treasure Goblins additional spells – And with it, additional rewards!
Another addition is new versions of Charms – Adapted from Diablo II, these charms will give you temporary buffs. All charms last for 2 hours.
Greedy Emissary 2025 – New Rewards
On the first Patch 11.1.7 PTR Development Notes, we were pointed out to the existence of at least a new mount and recolored Tier 2 sets.
The mount found in datamining currently has no in-game item attached to it. However, it is not only clearly a Tyrael’s Charger recolor, it is named in the files as “InariusMount”, meaning we will likely see this recolor as one of the rewards for the Greedy Emissary event!
In addition to these, Hellstone Shard will be used to purchase Ensembles for the new Diablo-themed recolored versions of the HD Tier 2 sets! It is currently unknown how many Hellstone Shards you’ll need for these, but you can preview these sets in our post:
