The data for this article was taken from the Raid Statistics Page on Warcraft Logs for Heroic difficulty during the week of September 10th. We will look at data for the 95th percentile and show the overall results to paint a better picture.

The idea of this article is to give a perspective of the current state of class balance for The War Within Season 1, meaning this is an incomplete picture of balance.

We say perspective, as there are inherent biases in looking at the data this way.

• Specs considered underpowered are generally played less and tend to appear weaker than they are.
• This happens as many performance-oriented players tend to play the strongest spec or class, increasing the gap between top and bottom specs even further.
• Position of specs for the 95th percentile might be skewed by alternative strategies and parse funneling. We’re including the chart showing all percentiles’ results to paint a better picture for all specs.
• Tier acquisition will skew how balance looks for the first weeks of Season 4.
• We will look into Heroic data for a few weeks while the Mythic population builds up.

Queen Ansurek Spec Performance

With the end of the first week arriving, we have a better picture of spec performance on Nerub-ar Palace’s final boss, Queen Ansurek.

Overall, melee seem to be very dominant in Nerub-ar Palace, Queen Ansurek notwithstanding. The top DPS on Ansurek are Ret Paladins, Enhancement Shaman, and, at number one by a large margin, Fury Warriors. Currently, on Queen Ansurek, a 95th Fury Warrior is performing 25% better than a 95th Havoc, which is current the 4th best spec in the fight.

Looking at the charts, however, reveals that big part of this damage is done to adds and not Ansurek herself, showing how strong Fury is at quick cleaving down adds. Looking at pure single target damage to Ansure, we see the rise of Subtlety Rogues and Arcane Mages, which are joined by Enhancement Shamans to make up the top three. Similarly to Fury in overall damage, Subtlety leads the pack about 23% ahead of A-Tier specs for this fight like both Death Knight specs, Arms Warrior and Affliction Warlock.

Overall, Nerub-ar Palace DPS balance seems to be skewing a lot towards melee DPS during the Heroic Week, with only Arcane Mage and Affliction Warlock showing up among the best specs in the raid and on Ansurek. Will the announced tuning changes and Mythic mechanics change this? We will see next week!
