Season 1 Mythic+ Overview Guide
Xal’atath’s Bargain: Ascendant Explained
This affix puts out 10 Orbs of Ascendance that need to be handled before their cast goes off. The orbs can be removed a few different ways:
- Using an interrupt on an Orb.
- Using any CC/displacement on the Orbs.
- Purging the Orbs.
Once an Orb is removed, it grants the party grants bonus movement speed and Haste. With all 10 Orbs of Ascendance removed, the party can gain a max of +20% movement speed and +20% Haste.
All AoE CC Available for Orbs of Ascendance
The easiest way to handle this affix is to use any AoE CC on as many orbs as possible. The next few sections will cover all AoE CC available with each class.
Death Knight
Death Knights can use Blinding Sleet on any Orbs in front of them. Blood Death Knights also get access to Gorefiend’s Grasp which is a very nice way to clear Orbs while grouping mobs.
Demon Hunter
Demon Hunters have lots at their disposal for this affix. All Demon Hunters have Sigil of Misery and Chaos Nova they can use while Vengeance Demon Hunters also have access to Sigil of Silence and Sigil of Chains. Lastly, whenever Demon Hunters use Metamorphosis, the slam creates a stun effect that will also break Orbs of Ascendance. In most cases, coming with Sigil of Misery, Metamorphosis, and some form of Sigil will be more than enough.
Druid
Druids have some good options here as well. Typhoon and Incapacitating Roar are pretty accessible across all Druid specializations and work quite effectively. Balance Druids can use their Solar Beam kick here, though it should only be used as a last resort since we want to save this for other dangerous mob casts in Dungeons.
Evoker
Evokers have both Tail Swipe and Wing Buffet at their disposal while Augmentation can also make use of Upheaval in certain situations. For Augmentation Evokers specifically, we recommend using Tail Swipe and Wing Buffet since Upheaval can be used in mob packs as a knock and is also used to extend Ebon Might.
Hunter
Hunters have a few different options here with Bursting Shot and either High Explosive Trap/Implosive Trap on a choice node. Tranquilizing Shot will also work here if spec’d into Kodo Tranquilizer to remove 2 additional Orbs nearby.
Mage
Mages have Blast Wave and Supernova/Dragon’s Breath on a choice node. Because of how quick Dragon’s Breath gets cancelled after damage, Supernova is likely the better choice here because it also knocks any mobs that are hit by it.
Monk
All Monk classes have access to Leg Sweep and Ring of Peace which both deal with this affix effectively.
Paladin
Paladins’ main choice here is Blinding Light. Protection Paladins also have a few different options here with Avenger’s Shield bounces paired Divine Toll.
Priest
Priests have Psychic Scream and Mass Dispel. Psychic Scream being on a 45 second cooldown is quite useful because it can be used on almost every affix window. Make it count!
Rogue
Rogues only way to handle this affix is by using Blind, and they can gain an AoE benefit from Airborne Irritant but it won’t cleave off of orbs for some reason.
Shaman
Shamans have a few ways to deal with this affix in the form of Capacitor Totem and Thunderstorm. If needed, Shamans can use Totemic Recall to grant a second Capacitor Totem.
Warlock
Warlocks have Shadowfury that will work well in most cases. If playing Destruction, the stun effect of Summon Infernal can also be used but this is only recommended if you are already planning to use Summon Infernal in the affix window.
Warrior
Warriors have one option here with Shockwave.
Tauren and Blood Elf Racial Talents
Taurens and Blood Elves have unique racial talents that will work on this affix! Taurens have War Stomp, an AoE stun to all enemies within 8 yards. Blood Elves have Arcane Torrent, which acts as an AoE purge to all enemies within 8 yards. Having an 8 yard range does require being VERY close to orbs for this to work, but these are working alternatives that will work in a pinch!
