Alchemy in Midnight Profession Overview in Midnight
What’s New with Midnight Alchemy?
In what may be the biggest change to any profession heading into Midnight, Midnight Alchemy completely revamps how players interact with the Recipe Discovery system – and that means no more RNG!
In The War Within, players had to roll the dice with Wild Experimentation and Meticulous Experimentation to learn new Alchemy recipes, which meant that with bad luck, you’d be blowing yourself up quite frequently and starting a lockout for further experimentation. It’s never fun to design a system that punishes you for trying to interact with it, and that’s exactly how many players felt this last expansion.
Now, Midnight instead uses deterministic research to learn Alchemy recipes: introducing Camberon’s Cauldron!
This supplementary trainer allows players to unlock new recipes by completing tasks within Alchemy – simple things that players are likely to already be doing, such as “Craft 5 Midnight Healing Potions” or “Craft Void Potions 10 times.” While recycling flasks and potions are still here to stay, the removal of RNG factors should make for a much smoother experience with Alchemy as a whole.
That’s not all that’s changing with Alchemy this time around, though. Those players who are fond of using Transmutations might be in for a bit of a struggle, since Midnight’s transmutation options (Bouquet of Herbs, Box of Rocks, and School of Gems) all share a cooldown – one that’s 18 hours long. There are cooldown reductions for the new Wondrous Synergist transmutation, which will be a heavily used item for things such as the Voidlight Potion Cauldron, but sadly, there doesn’t seem to currently be a way to adjust the general transmutes.
