Ratts’ Revenge: Guide to Incognitro, the Indecipherable Felcycle
Current Felcycle Torch Progress
If you’re fully caught on to the Felcycle secret as of the time of this post, this is how your Felcycle room should look like!
- Small orbs surrounding a torch mean that a specific puzzle is partially solved.
- A large orb atop a torch means that the specific puzzle is completed, and new clues are revealed in the Karazhan Catacombs.
- Progress on this puzzle is saved on your character – Leaving and resetting the dungeon, or logging out, will NOT reset your progress.
- As of the time of this recap, we have complete solves on Torches 1 to 8, and partial solves on Torch 10!
Torch 8: Rats (SOLVED)
Torch 8 is lit up by solving a puzzle entirely within the Karazhan Catacombs, and it involves the Enigma Machine, located just after the set of stairs that lead to the area where the Felcycle is located at. This Enigma Machine has been non-functional for most of the hunt, but we’ll make use of it now!
Once you add the Ancient Shaman Blood (from solving Torch 6) and the Warden’s Mirror (from solving Torch 7) into the Enigma Machine located after the alarm in the Karazhan Catacombs, the machine will become functional. Interacting with it will give you two prompts: BEGIN and SUBMIT. There are a few things you need to know before you can start solving this puzzle, though!
Torch 8 Puzzle Basics
Before we can learn how to solve Torch 8, there are a few things you need to know about the Enigma Machine and the environments of the Karazhan Catacombs.
- There are 5 statues inside the Karazhan Catacombs, these can be moved around by clicking on them. Clicking on them while they’re attached to you will release them. You can only carry one statue at a time.
The Rage Statue can be found just as you enter the Catacombs, after the first set of stairs. - The Nature Statue can be found inside the room with the ogre symbol on top of its entrance.
- The Watcher Statue can be found inside the room with the big red button on top of its entrance.
- The Guardian Statue can be found next on the corridor just after the alarm, next to the Enigma Machine.
- The Greed Statue can be found in the room where the Felcycle is located, just to the right of the entrance.
There are 7 pressure plates scattered around the Karazhan tombs. Once the Enigma Machine is turned on, these will glow up, signifying they can be fiddled with. These are activated when you, or any statues/other step on either plate. A beam of light of a specific color will emit from the pressure plate, depending on how many objects are sitting on the specific pressure plate:
- 1 Object – Blue light
- 2 Objects – Green light
- 3 Objects – Yellow light
- 4 Objects – Red light
- 5 Objects – Purple light
- 6+ Objects resets the cycle – 6 blue, 7 green, etc. You will likely not hit this threshold, but it’s good to know!
Locations of all Pressure Plates in the Karazhan Catacombs:
- Plate #1 is inside the Felcycle room, to the right of the Cryptic Plaque.
- Plate #2 is inside the Felcycle Room, just to the left of the entrance.
- Plate #3 is inside the gated-off room with the Humming Crystal on top of its entrance. You can bypass the gate by using the previously obtained Relic of Crystal Connections at the blue Humming Crystal inside the room to get inside. When inside the room, you can get near the gate and target the Humming Crystal outside to port out of the room.
- Statues can pass through the gate if you move one next to the gate – It will gain Crystalline Displacement and become translucent, allowing it to pass through the gate.
Plate #4 is on the corner next to the Handwritten Note and Crumpled Notes.
Plate #5 is just after the stairs leading to the main portion of the instance, next to a Replica Owl of the Watchers.
Plate #6 is on the corridor, just to the left of the gated-off room with the three cats and a clock.
Plate #7 is inside the room with the ogre symbol on top of its entrance.
There are two types of critter NPCs can be found in the Catacombs: Rat and Catacombs Rat. THIS IS IMPORTANT.
Solving Torch 8
Solving Torch 8 requires using the statues and pressure plates scattered around the Karazhan Catacombs in combination to bypass 7 locks from the Enigma Machine. Once the machine is functional, it has two options: BEGIN (which starts the puzzle and activates the pressure plates) and SUBMIT (used to attempt to unlock one of the 7 locks).
- If you’ve been inside the Catacombs, it is a good idea to leave them and reset the dungeon before starting this.
- Interact with the Enigma Machine and click BEGIN once, to start the puzzle. Activating the Enigma Machine will give you a chat message, The dungeon echoes with the sound of mechanisms resetting.
- After this, click SUBMIT once. This will start the puzzle and spawn Rats through the catacombs.
- Go back to the entrance of the Catacombs and search the dungeon for Rats. Count how many Rats you find. Do NOT count Catacombs Rats.
Make sure you kill all critters you see, as they can step on pressure plates and mess up counts. - You can go into Interface > Critters and Companions option (or just search for “Critters”) to have critter names show up to help with your search.
- You can also use the following macro to help you find rats:/tar Rat
/script SetRaidTarget(“target”, 8);
/cleartarget
Once you have a headcount of how many rats are spawned in the Catacombs, use the table below to see which pressure plate needs to be activated.
- As an example, if I have 4 rats on the first lock, I’ll put in 1 statue on Pressure Plate #4. On the second lock, if I count 6 rats, I’ll add 2 statues to Pressure Plate #5, etc.
Once you’re sure you have the correct amount of statues on the correct pressure plate, return to the Enigma Machine, interact with it, and choose SUBMIT.
- If you’re correct, you’ll get the magnifying lens signifying you got a secret and a chat message, You hear a mechanism unlock.
- If you’re wrong, you will get zapped, and the puzzle will need to be restarted from Lock 1!
If you get a lock correct, clean up the pressure plate you just used out of statues, and then go back to counting rats for the next lock. Repeat this until Lock 7 is unlocked.
Successfully unlocking all 7 locks with the Enigma Machine will give you the chat message – A great lock has been released. – And fully light up Torch 8!

Torch 9: Vault (PROGRESS STARTED)
With Torch 8 being lit, the vault room just after the Felcycle can finally be opened! This room features some very ancient architecture, including a sarcophagus, titan devices, and books covered in spider webs. Looks like it’s been a while since anyone’s been here. Of note, the monument with the whirlpool in the middle of the room reacts to the Torch of Pyrreth (but nothing happens when using the Torch next to it). In addition to this, there is a new book: Ratts’ Journal: The Final Chapter?. It reads:
In catacombs with dusty pages
As paladins or rogues or mages
Through all the wars that never cease
In search of hope
In search of peace
For all the journeys, in any weather,
For all adventures yet to come together
The final key is why I stay:
For you…
For Azeroth…
In addition to this, a previously visited location now has changes! The rabbit hole cave in Azj-Kahet where we previously confronted Ratts in Ratts’ Race has had some additions. Using your Starry-Eyed Goggles in the cave will reveal a platform near the ceiling. The contains a Humming Crystal that you can use your Relic of Crystal Connections to climb on, and on top of the platform there is a Decryption Console (the same kind used for Torch 3) and an Encrypted Chest. Although you could previously climb on the platform, the Console/Chest were not interactable objects until Torch 8 was solved!
If you need a refresher on how to get to this cave, here’s the excerpt of our Update #1 post!
